ASDA and Sainsburys

Hi
Looking at ASDA continously being the lowest priced Supermarket over its rivals. it has made me think lately that Sainsburys price match and have the Necter points.
So is it cheaper to shop at Sainsburys.
Thanks
Do you always spend at least £20 each shop? Do you buy only "brands"?0 -

Joe, they've been the lowest for the last 20 years or something, they're always advertising that fact. Some sort of comparable shop by an independent body do it every year, and Asda always wins.
Plus, when you get home, google 'Asda price guarantee', type in your receipt number and if you shopping wasn't 10% cheaper than everywhere else! then they'll give you a voucher for the difference. Now remember, that's 10% CHEAPER, not a price match, CHEAPER.
So Asda will ALWAYS be at least 10% cheaper than everywhere else. It still puzzles me why people go elsewhere.0 -
Scooby, those Nectar points, Club points etc, it's all just a big con to get you into a shop that's much more expensive than Asda. Ditch them and save real money instead of daft points!0

Asda is more expensive because ... their food looks so much nicer when you're going round than Sainsburys. There are more "treats" to be discovered in Asda. . . more temptations and exciting sounding things..... so you come out with more.
I find Sainsburys' offerings disappointing; shopping in Asda is a real treat.
I really wish Asda were my closest supermarket0 -
So they're not really more expensive then, you are just more open to suggestion and clever shop layouts.
Don't fall for it! Make a list before you go in and absolutely, positively, definitely stick to it!
Well, except for the four packs of chocolate bars for a quid and Easter eggs (3 for£1) at the he end of the aisles0 -

Are you sure? I thought that was The Grocer Magazine and they compare so few items that asda were banned from saying they were the cheapest supermarket based on that.Plus, when you get home, google 'Asda price guarantee', type in your receipt number and if you shopping wasn't 10% cheaper than everywhere else! then they'll give you a voucher for the difference. Well I did, and asda DO NOT say they are 10% cheaper on your shopping, they say they are 10% cheaper on your COMPARABLE shopping.
Then I find loads of stuff about asda selling different pack sizes to other supermarkets, so they are not comparable. Things like asda selling birds eye fish fingers in packs of 10 when other supermarkets sell them in packs of 12, so they don't compare them.So Asda will ALWAYS be at least 10% cheaper than everywhere else.
No it won't, it will only be 10% cheaper for the items that are comparable. It still puzzles me why people go elsewhere.
It still puzzles me why people fall for that con.0 -
Wow! Not an Asda fan then Joe?
I'm pretty sure if you dig around enough then you'll be able to say the same thing about all the supermarkets. They're all clued up on their little tricks and secrets to make them look cheaper.
But when I use the Mysupermarket app, it regularly has Asda in first or second place. But then when you use your receipt for the 10% cheaper thing, then Asda wins for me, every time.
Each to their own though.0 -

Depends what you consider to be their rivals ?
Aldi and/or Lidl have always been cheaper ( and Asda dont price compare against them because there prices are not available online )0 -

I'm not a fan of any supermarket, I use them because I have to but I also know that no one supermarket is cheaper for everything.I'm pretty sure if you dig around enough then you'll be able to say the same thing about all the supermarkets. They're all clued up on their little tricks and secrets to make them look cheaper.
Yes that's true, and that's what makes them all the same. They have some things that are cheaper than their competitors, and they shout about them and hope you don't notice that the other items they sell are more expensive. But when I use the Mysupermarket app, it regularly has Asda in first or second place. But then when you use your receipt for the 10% cheaper thing, then Asda wins for me, every time.
Yes but you are being fooled by the price guarantee. You are thinking everything in asda is cheaper, but it's not. The price guarantee only checks certain items and gives you the difference on them only, not the whole of your shop. Each to their own though.
I agree, I just think you shouldn't get fooled by the hype all the supermarket spew out.0
