no offence gilbert and sullivan, but i would never say to someone you can easily fit your own pads and disc's. would you really want to temp fate with your brakes when your driving a near 2 tonne vehicle, and your not sure of what your doing.

I think the price is a little high for a backstreet garage, I would expect to pay that at a franchised garage tho.

I see your point, but unless people are prepared to learn how to maintain their own cars, they'll forever be paying through the nose, or worse, pricing up a replacement car because £300 their present car needs spending is more like £1000 at the garage.

Non of us were born knowing how to fix simple things like this, indeed in many ways its easier now with Youtube videos and DIY based workshop manuals, parts are stunningly cheap for good makes too if carefully bought via the net.

For example, Mintex front and rear pads and discs for my 3.0 litre Outback, £134 delivered, took me a couple of hours because i did as Scotsbob does, fully serviced and bled through the brakes whilst there and cleaned and lubed everything up properly.

I wouldn't suggest someone starting out getting involved in a pre facelift W211 E Class Merc of 03 to 06 manufacture, serious real danger of the SBC system firing up when dismantled and removing the unknowledgeable finger tips as the system pumps the brakes in instantly.

A Focus C max is a simple basic braking system, a bit of nous, investment in some tools, some common sense and a good read up will see these done in a couple of hours by a complete novice.

Are they really 2 tons probably explains why the CVT box last about 5 minutes before costing its owner £4k.
