Energy bill of £175 per month??
Im with EDF, and sent last month 1-st of march readings, now sent again on 1-st of april, and got back a bill of £105 Gas and £60 elec + 5% vat. totalling at £175.
Is it really possible to use £100 worth on heating or is something off? As gas is used only on heating the house (3bed half semi).
Electric might be ok, as we use electric cooker, plasma tv, desktop pc + laptop + washer + us fridge freezer and other small bits n bobs, but just baffled the amount spent on gas ?

Yes it's possible to spend £100/month on heating. It depends on how many hours you run your heating, what temperature you have your thermostat set for heating and hot water. Most people find their winter quarter heating bill accounts for about 75% or more of their total spend.
Say you pay around 5p per kWh for your gas, you have used about 2000 kWh, or an average of 70 kWh/day. If your boiler is sized at 20 kW that's equivalent to it running flat out for 3.5 hours.
Which? comparision website for cheapest rates. When I last looked, daligas was cheapest for gas and Ovo Energy for electricity.0 -
I would think that was about average for gas at this time of year for your size of house. For example, we tend to use about £80-90 worth for 5 months, £40-50 for 2 months and £5-10 for 5 months, which comes to about 12000-13000kwh a year.0
