Kitchen Floor Tiles

So we have started to design our kitchen, knowing that it will take a few weeks to sort out, and we are starting to look at floor tiles. Now we already have a certain tile in our kitchen that I like but it has been discontinued
and I cannot find anything similar so we are going to start again. I have been into Topps Tiles with Mr G and neither of us were particularly enamoured with anything in there, does anyone else have any other suggestions for reasonably priced tiles? We have about a 36m2 area to cover as we are knocking a wall through. Mr G does not want to tile the dining area with a contrast tile either.

I've never found anything I like in Topp's I have to confess. Are there any independent tile places close to you? Or how about retails units on industrial sites; often there will be a tile outlet place in such a location.
I know that there is a Johnson's tile factory outlet in Stoke on Trent, or they sell a few ranges online http://www.cheaptiles.co.uk/default.aspx. I've ordered from them before & the service was excellent. Samples are available for all tiles they sell to help you make a decision.
Quite a few tile places sell via ebay. I once bought some fab kitchen wall tiles from one of these sellers at a fraction of the price I'd have paid elsewhere. Samples are often available unless the tiles are a real good end of line deal.
Perhaps you could also do a google search to see what tile outlets might not be too far from you & there are also the sheds, such as Wickes & B&Q that you could look in, though their ranges are not vast.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Thanks Cattie. This is the first kitchen I have done, and Mr G and I have vastly different taste I have found!Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

I don't know what your 'budget' is!?
After a problem to units, wall and floor from, from a water pipe leak, we took the opportunity to have new work tops, re-tiled the walls (curiously enough - from Topps Tiles), and then later tiled over the floor with Karndean Vinyl Tiles - very pleased with the 'look'.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
My first port of call is always 'Topps' ( its closest)
Like most retailers they sell lots of different tiles, so you are just as likely to see the same tile in topps as an independent store.0 -
No more than £800 I am guessing at the moment. I have found some that look ok online (have ordered a sample) so will just see what they turn out like.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

I was also not that inspired with Topps and eventually found porcelain floor tiles and also glossy wall tiles which I liked much better in Homebase0

We have used Homebase tiles in quite a few rooms now. We first got these in the black;
http://www.homebase.co.uk/SearchDisplay?categoryId=&langId=110&storeId=10201&catalogId=10011&pageSize=43&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&pageView=&&searchTerm=cuba%20floor%20tile
and they went down so well, they were easy to cut, we had no broken ones and they've been down for years now with no chips. So when we did our kitchen we bought the cream ones, the only down side is we had such a large room to do and there are colour variations to them, so you need to make sure you open up all the packs first and muddle them all up. Otherwise I highly recommend Homebase for tiles.0 -
We find tile giant to have the best selection. We were the same as you, found topps tiles to have nothing at all we liked. Went for beige (its actualy more white/cream) Gradino tiles in the end. Anti slip, with a little bit of sparkle and flecky bits. They are really quite nice.

For anyone buying from tile giant try tileHQ, same company but online only and much cheaper on most of there rangeHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
