Please please can someone help me with ppi

Options
Hello, I reclaimed the bank charges from HSBC several yrs ago but I just don't understand how to reclaim ppi. I have read and reread martins advise, but just don't understand.
I have got my credit history and need someone please to take me under their wing and guide me. Husband doesn't think it's worth the effort, but he thought that with the bank charges and when I got lots of pennies back it helped us clear some small debts. I would love to take family away on holiday and prepared to put the time in to this "on the off chance" we have had ppi.
I do know we have ppi on the mortgage but as husband explained that is a protection payment for the monthly mortgage. My worry is I will make a claim for something we need.

Please I am the first person to help others and this time I am asking for help which comes hard, but I feel positive

Many thanks and please just looking for a person to email who has been through it already with advise, not in any way do it, just a helping hand xx:o

    I wouldn't advise conducting anything via "E-Mail" or personal message. If you do, you put yourself in danger of "advice" from employees of claims management companies.

    Stay on the forum and ask whatever questions you like, although I don't know how the process can be explained more simply and straightforwardly than the MSE advice article;

    Most mortgage PPI complaints are rejected for precisely the reason you give. It's a useful insurance which is difficult to argue is unnecessary.

    Then you shouldnt complain about it. Your mindset is actually closer to the norm as most people that do complain about MPPI find their complaints rejected (the opposite of loan and credit card PPI where the real problems were).

  • My worry is I will cancel something I need? I have looked at the instructions on mse so many times but worried I will !!!! something up.....
  • Many thanks for support just want to speak to someone who's been through it.
    On mse it says if you where told you had to have a premium account and pay for that each month for get a lower mortgage, that can be reclaimed? Is that correct? I signed the agreement but they said I couldn't get the lower mortgage without having this special account.
    I have sent of for credit report, do I know just write to each bank/mortgage/loan and say did I have ppi on the agreement? Is it that simple?

    Since this may well have been a condition of getting the lower rate, I can't see you having any success with that reason. As said above, most mortgage PPI complaints are rejected, so you need particularly robust reasons.

    You can generally ring the bank and ask for this information. For older closed accounts you'll need to write a Subject Access Request to obtain details of what they they have kept on file for you. It costs £10 per lender, so could prove expensive if you didn't have any PPI.
    If you don't know whether you had any PPI, how are you going to complain about a mis-sale if you did?

    That is incorrect. It is allowed for lenders to offer a special deal with a cross subsidy product as long as the cross subsidy product is suitable. Are you sure the MSE article is referring to mortgages? Mortgages are different to loan, credit card and bank accounts (not being regulated under the consumer credit act for example). You make reference to "account" and not "insurance" which suggests you a misread.

    Not so common nowadays but in the past that was normal. Nothing wrong with that.
