Will we ever have wi-fi TV Signal?

In these days of Wi-if on most things, does anyone think we will ever be able to do away with the Coax cable indoors? We like to move our tv to several different places in the sitting room, and she who must be obeyed, would like several more options, which are impossible to get to with a cable.

Though be warned, if you have wifi internet it can interfere with the signal

You can watch freeview tv channels off the internet so you don't need an aerial, connect your tv to a computer and you're away.

In a few years I reckon the majority of tv watching will be done via the internet .... smart tvs will get ever smarter. You can already get sky channels without a satellite dish with Now tv

An aerial doesn't require an internet connection and so costs no extra money. While I agree the vast majority of people now have internet, that doesn't mean that they'll all start using it to watch TV.

What is certain, though, is that the technology allowing TV via internet (for those who want/need it) will continue to improve.

As long as they do not reduce over-the-air TV services as there are still people who can not get any form of terrestrial internet service.

Have you linked to the wrong thing?
That's just a wifi network dongle to connect the TV to the internet via your router.
It depends on you having a wifi router. It doesn't interfere with it.

I think what the OP is thinking about is more like a wireless connection between your set top box and the TV, so you could do away with an HDMI cable for a wall mounted set?
I think this is indeed in development?

Or they might be thinking about a wireless connection between the aerial and the TV?
That will never come about IMO, because as others have said, TV is likely to come via the internet before long.

I think they are working on a built in system, perhaps even with wireless power, so you can hang a screen on a wall, without any wires to connect it?
Not sure how far away that is from reality?

This wont become a 'direct' option' , the most obvious solution would be for a manufacturer to produce a sky or other digibox that could send a wireless signal to the tv although for your example it would mean the 'box' would be located away from the tv !!

Another solution would be for a router manufacturer to produce a router that included a digital tuner.

This is something that you want for 'cosmetic' reasons and as such would not sell in the numbers required to keep the price to an affordable level.

Just tell 'she who must be obeyed' to get a life !!

No. Think about it. If your loft aerial feeds into a transmitter that sends the signal to a box plugged into the TV's standard aerial socket then you are re-broadcasting terrestrial telly and that needs a license.

The way to go is broadband delivery of TV channels which the TV picks up over wi-fi.
