Tesco cheese - "new smaller size"
We buy Tesco own label Red Leicester ever week. Then it went "out of stock". Last Thursday had reappeared, with the additional "New" sticker on the shelf. Puzzled as to what was new about it, I checked the labelling. Apparently the strength is now 3 not 2 - although I can't detect any difference in the cheese. The bottom line was on the reverse side. The new weight was 200g, a reduction of 20% from the previous weight of 250g. There was no reduction in price though.
The latest in a series of ruses to deceive the customer and mask stealth price increases. Shame on you Tesco.

same old way of making cheese (and almost everythiong else!) more expensive. I remember that the large blocks used to be 400 g, then 350g and now some are even 300g but still in large packaging that suggest it's 400g. Soon everybody else will follow on the 250s, thanks for the warning....First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Sadly, this is a game all the supermarkets and manufacturers are playing and they often do so hiding behind the smokescreen of Government 'healthy eating' programmes.
It's hard to see what we can do when they are all at it except shop even more ruthlessly for better value.0 -
So ask at the deli counter for x00gms, or whatever you want. Staff are trained to gauge the amount accurately enough, or you can eyeball it yourself.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

or shop elsewhere = where you still get the same amount you are used toFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Deli counter cheeses are usually a different price. The packs are also not usually priced for individual purchase - they tend to be a permanent multi-buy. As such the SEL per 100g is inaccurate - you'll have to work out yourself what the new real price is.0

If I had to change where I shop every time a product got smaller I'd soon run out of places to shop.
I really hope I never get so obsessed with saving money that I hike to another shop just for an extra 50g of cheese!0 -
The brown sauce went down from 470g to 330g recently too.0

hmmm, I do several supermarkets on a shopping day to get the best deals for us and my budget...must admit though that we don't live near a town so I make the best of it. I find myself going quite stroppy in front of some shelves "No, I'm not paying that or that's cheaper down the road" - so there - is that obsessed?

Yes but nedsram said he/she gets it at Tesco every week. There is obviously a reason for this.Happygreen wrote: »I find myself going quite stroppy in front of some shelves "No, I'm not paying that or that's cheaper down the road" - so there - is that obsessed?
Well if you are getting stroppy about it, yes.
There's nothing wrong with shopping around, but if someone is buying the same item week after week at the same shop there's usually a reason for it. Telling them to "shop elsewhere" is not always useful, unless they have not tried to shop elsewhere before, they can actually shop elsewhere, the "elsewere" actually stocks the item and is cheaper than Tesco.0 -
i am hating the smallers sizes, of practically everything but particularly cheese
they just shouldnt mess with cheese:mad:
i bought sliced cheese, the mexicana type
same price, same amount of slices, yey
but they are half the thickness they used to be:(
i would rather pay more and get what i used to buy than these efforts, poor efforts at that:(0
