You got off lucky, a friend got a diesel 9-3 and it was spewing black smoke and ended up costing another £800 within a fortnight
EGR valve, by any chance?they're actually Alfa engines I think, is that right?
It's a Fiat group engine, so - yes - used in some Alfas - but also used by other GM brands including Vauxhall/Opel.0 -

That, among with two pages of other faults. Still loves it though. I didn't know they were used in anything else, I thought they'd picked it as a way to annoy GM for forcing them to offer diesels!0
