how long ago did you start the HP agreement? I assume you've checked to make sure it's not still under warranty?

Warranty was only 6 months. I have paid off just over half the amount.

Hia Toomuchdebt, having just read this thread, you don't say how much your total debt is, or how much a month you are paying towards it ?, if money is that tight for you at the moment, then you need to consider stopping your debt payments altogether, at least until things improve financially, if you aint got it, they cant have it, save up, get your car fixed, seriously creditcard debts and loans are not priority payments, look after number one first, which is your self and your family.

Total debt is in my signature and currently I am paying £230 plus the money they are taking off my income support at 22.96 a week(by the time they send out the paperwork to look into it. it'll be paid off as there's only 2 payments to go-it's fortnightly payments).I'm really not paying very much-only as much as I can afford or rather could afford before the deductions.

Consider reducing your DMP for the next 2 months. You could catch up easily when you're back in work xxx

Hi, We have the same username (although mine has some underscores in it).

I sympathise, I have three children and am always having to say I haven't got money for this or that. I really hate having to say it and think to myself I must stop saying that but it is hard and I don't want them to grow up remembering that all I said was I didn't have money.

Shame the walk to school is so far, we have been walking this last week as I had no diesel in my car (7 seater) and didn't have any money to put any in. It is just under a mile to my girl's school but we go the quick way which is to cut through an alleyway where there is an area that has horses and it is an OK walk. DD1's friend lives just by the cut through so we walk with them and then carry on from there.

My girls are 9, 8 and 5. Now the weather is getting better we will be walking more to save diesel. My car was £143 for tax last time (my parents gave me the money for it so my girls didn't have to walk in the cold and rain) and OH was saying his had gone up when he renewed this month. At least soon we will be able to pay monthly (think it's from October).

I don't have any solutions for you I'm afraid but I sympathise with you.

Toomuchdebt, I'm no expert but are you able to register as disabled? Sorry, I have no idea what you are suffering from but if it's long term you may be entitled to a mobility car.

Might be worth finding out what's wrong with the car and a cost to fix it- in case it is a cheap fix, doesn't sound like you should be using that much fuel.

Could be good news if you have paid over half off, should be able to hand it back after this point normally. School summer holidays could be the time to get rid of the car as you won't need it for school runs although probably be a pain at the time but would give you 6 weeks of no payments or fuel/insurance/tax/running costs to get some money together for a banger.
  • Op is the social fund debt nearly paid off? Otherwise a visit to CAB could result in a renegotiation of the repayments. As for a DRO you should check the rules on the nationlal debtline website and double check that you are not entitled to do one - it could be your best option.

too_much_debt-hi there :) Your walk to school sounds so much nicer than mine-wish we went past horses.I might try driving half way and walking from there, or maybe walking on Mondays and Fridays when my son is at playgroup all day.

Wi88le-I've taken it to 3 mechanics and best estimate was £800 to fix it.

Bublin1-no it's not as bad as that-just causes pain when walking and standing especially but am fine when sitting so it's not bad enough. It's getting better now finally so hopefully soon I'll be ok.

When the going gets tough-there's only £113 left to pay on it.That's 2 more payments and it's gone, so not worth even renegotiating-by the time I receive the form(takes 10 days), get it back to them, they look into it(up to 4 weeks) it'll be paid off.

I'll manage somehow.I always do. If I have to I'll reduce the DMP.I did pay one debt off last week so there's that £20 that I was going to snowball but while my payments are reduced this month it will go towards other things.

I don't have to pay my phone bill this month which is awesome.Basically I've had a lot of signal issues with my phone so have contacted EE many times.I keep losing service completely. That's not the only issue.Last month I tried to set up a direct debit on my account online-kept getting an error. So I rang up and they did it over the phone and had a letter a few days later saying it had been set up etc. Fast forward to bill due date-money still sat in account...kept checking and it was still there yesterday so I rang up as I didn't want a late payment marker on my account.Got a really nice man on the phone who checked and basically the direct debit had been set up to the stage where the letter was generated but it hadn't been activated. So as a gesture of goodwill he paid my bill off this month :) So that helps a bit too :)

I'm feeling more positive this morning anyway-had 2 days of feeling low but slept late this morning and am much happier.I have to go to the shop later for food shopping so will have to use the car then but tomorrow I will walk into town and then I don't have to use the car for anything until next week I think.
