Can my Insurer charge me for months which my policy was cancelled?

Hi would be grateful for advice.
The situation is I took out car insurance with Go Girl In September 2013. Midway through it on the 7th of February 2014, I bought a new car shopped around for new deals and decided to cancel it. Later during the same day I thought it would be cheaper to stick with them so negotiated to remain on the same policy and just switch it to the new car which incurred an extra charge which i paid. So anyway Cancellation procedure involves sending an email, which i did before reconsidering to stay with them. I got an Email back from them saying in order to cancel I would need to ring them and confirm verbally. As I had negotiated to stick with them prior to them sending this email I ignored it. Two months down the line I notice they have not been taking any money from the account, I call them they tell me the policy has been cancelled. I explain the situation they say it was an error on their part but tell me to reinstate the policy I should pay for the last two months despite the fact I was effectively not covered during the time. My question is there anything I can do about this or do I have to pay the outstanding amount? Help appreciated

Not sure on the legally correct answer. However, I would want to pay it so I was not driving uninsured, if someone makes a late claim against me I'd have insurers to run to. If you don't pay and you weren't covered you don't have this option. If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
well yes you should, as you wouldnt have been insured otherwise...if I read that correctly0

Your insurance is an annual contract - not monthly, so there is no issue, the insurer is due their money.
IF you had an accident they would have agreed to cover your lability due to their error, so you would not have faced prosecution.
You were lucky - accept this and pay for the cover you used.0 -
They will backdate cover for this, so yes it's worth paying.

If you dont pay them that back payment then you probably wont be insured.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
