opinions on these higher milage cars
Currently have a 207 1.6hdi and want rid , the DMF needs replacing soon, DPF keeps regenerating and the EML comes on indicating turbo boost pressure low, the turbo seals are going. thinking of getting one of the below cars for around £2-2.5k they all seem to have around 120,000 to 140,000 on the clock I do 250-300 miles a week to work.
Anything to look out for? any common probs with any of them? I understand given the milage and age there will be wear and tear issues
focus 1.8tdci
passat 1.9tdi
golf 1.9tdi
astra 1.7cdti
A3 1.9 tdi

The passat, golf and Audi use the same engine. Arguably the best Diesel engine in the VAG range. I would personally look to 1 of them. With good maintenance these engines can see 500k no problem.
The golf and Audi will be more expensive to insure as they are high on a chavs wish list. (Sorry to all respectable owners on here)
I would go for the passat. And it goes without saying that you should only entertain vehicles which have a full/comprehensive service history. If it's been looked after you should have no serious problems0 -
Stick some Octavia on the list you might get more for your money0

1.9tdi Vag engines are bullet proof if maintained properly.0

The 1.7cdti Astra is a hardy vehicle.
And i am certain that when the new model from 05 onwards was fitted with a 1.7 Isuzu engine again.
MetPol have been using the previous generation Astra for years and put big miles on them.
Golf and A3 are expensive for what you get. Passat can be a good car. Until the suspension bushes need sorting, which is often. And they are also expensive when compared to a mk3 Mondeo or last of the Vectras.
Octavia is a decent buy at sensible prices. But cost conscious buyers are keeping prices firm so not as cheap as they were.
A leftfield choice could be the Seat Toldeo, saloon version from '99 onwards that the original Seat Leon was based on, same front end etc, but Leon was a hatch. Or indeed the original Seat Leon.
Either of those is a much better looking car than an Octavia, actually they both came fitted with Audi A3 dashboards.
I owned a Toledo back in '99. An entry level 110tdi S model was £17k believe it or not!0 -

Totally agree.
Now had 7 of them
Golf TDI from new, sold at 95k
Golf TDI from new, sold at 40k
Passat TDI bought at 123k, sold at 165k
Audi A4 TDI bought at 138k, at 178k
Golf TDI bought at 140k, sold at 190k
Currently have:
Golf TDI bought at 237k, now at 240k
Passat TDI bought at 109k, now at 142k
All had FSH with regular oil changes. On none of them did I need to do anything other than routine servicing or consumable items such as exhaust or tyres - exactly the same items as you'd get with any car driven those miles. But with all I got them at a much lower price than if they had 100k miles less and were sold as "low mileage" at a premium.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
