Mis-sold mortgage

I've just received a letter from the solicitor that dealt with my re-mortgage in 2006, stating that they believe I was mis-sold the mortgage and could be entitled to compensation.
Obviously this letter states that they will look into it on a no win no fee basis. But having been stung before on PPI compensation (I let a company deal with my claim, before I knew I could do it easily myself and lost out on thousands
).
So I would like to know if anyone could tell me how I would go about looking into this claim myself.
Thanks
