Cheap energy club - wrong calculations

I have just received an e-mail alert to advise me I can save money on my current Scottish power dual fuel tarrif.
Trouble is the calculation is wrong, my spread sheet and that of U-Switch show my annual energy usage is over £120pa less than that shown by Moneysaving experts, Cheap Energy Club.
Not a good advert of your website Mr Lewis.

  • The CEC is a load of pants, although I'm not sure Martin Lewis is overly bothered; he flogged the site for £87 million a few years ago.

Is your current tariff ending soon ? If so the savings will be against the new tariff you will be put on. I do not use CEC as I find the interface horrendous. EnergyHelpLine for me, everything I need to know in front of me in a sensible format.

I've noticed this too. Ovo for example is £59 lower than it is if you manually calculate the cost based on the standing charge and electricity & gas unit costs provided. It's still out by £59 after adjusting the usage to 1kWh each.

As Birdman says, this isn't his website anymore. He sold out ;)

I think he prefers twitter nowadays :)

That's probably because the comparison sites knock off the £60 discount.

I am considering changing energy supplier as my current EDF tariff ends in June. The annual usage estimate from EDF is £503, the Which estimate is £514, but the Energy Club figure is £545. It seems that Energy Club is inflating the savings to be made by switching. If I can't trust Martin, who the hell can I trust!

Ovo man: please calculate my usage figures, apply any discounts such as direct debits and tell me if I can still have paper bills. I am happy to enter readings into your website but wish to have a printed bill.

    Annual usage
    1,240 kWh of electricity
    5,424 kWh of gas

You can either put your details directly into the Ovo site, or better still into a couple or three comparison sites and see what is the best deal for you from the whole of market :)

Unless you provide your supply region or first part of your postcode, no one here can help you.

(Be aware that the CEC uses data direct from moneysupermarket.com)

Ovo bills are provided in pdf format, so it's easy to print they out yourself.
But if you really want Ovo to print them for you, they will do so on request.
(Refer to their website for cost - probably about £20 a year for quarterly bills by post)

OK thanks. I will input the details into the Ovo site and see what I get. I don't pay EDF for a paper bill so thought others would be the same. I have not had a printer for about 6 years and don't really wish to get one. I'm a luddite and still like to check my paper bills, that and a good tariff led me to EDF.
