Maternity pay/allowance

Hi. I am due to start a claim for maternity allowance as I was made redundant a few months ago so obviously can't get normal maternity pay. My questions is how much would it be. I know normally maternity pay is about £140 a week or 90% of the weekly wage but what about when your not working. Do they base it on what my wage was or do I just receive a standard rate. Also how long is it paid. Is it like normal maternity and paid for the 39 weeks. Thanks. X

Have you checked that you are not entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay?

Read about Statutory Maternity Pay and if you are not entitled to it then click on the link about Maternity Allowance.

It's the same as lower rate of SMP (ie the standard bit not the 90% rate) and lasts for 39 weeks.
