I don't know if you remember but back at the end of Feb I was having computer problems and you sent me a PM offering some help and useful links. It's taken me a while to get round to trying to do it, but I got there in the end and have hit a few snags. (I've tried to PM but your inbox is full so I'm hoping you spot this.)
I've put in the new hard drive, sorted out the XP disc and gone to install it. I got as far as where it tells you to press enter to continue to load XP, press F2 for restore etc when I had a sodding power cut just as it all seemed to be going well.
Now the computer doesn't seem to want to boot from the disc. When I start it up I get the very brief detecting drives message then it goes straight to the flashing white cursor on the top left of an otherwise blank black screen.
Any further help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you tried going back into the BIOS (press F2/DEL/Whatever key is relevant to your machine after powering on the PC) to set the CD/DVD drive as the first (boot) drive and then running the Windows install disk again?0
-
Will try that now. I'm a complete computer novice so the thought of doing anything in BIOS scares me witless, but nothing ventured and all that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Sorted!
With a huge thank you to everyone who offered their time and expertise, and to NiftyDigits in particular, I'm now computerised again.
(Still lacking the internet on the desktop, but that's probably because I've forgotten to plug things back in. If it's not obvious, I'll be back....)All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

This was the iQon. What is the model number?0
-
Not sure - will have to see if it says on the back of the computer.
I think my internet problems are due to the settings - it's telling me that I have a connection, but giving me page not connected when I try to look at anything.
I have a vague recollection of having similar problems when I first set it up, and I had to phone talktalk to sort it out, so when I've got both the time and the energy to tackle one of their call centres I'll have to get back onto them. The thought fills me with trepidation to say the least. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Any question marks within the Device Manager?0
-
Question marks on other devices - multimedia audio controller and video controller. Everything else looks ok.
I think I'm going to go round to mums tomorrow - she also has talk talk to double check the ISP settings and make sure I've got those correct.
Not sure about the model number. It's got the serial number, then TECS03All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

That model had all kinds of different Motherboards fitted.
Perhaps easiest for you is to run SlimDrivers, once you've plugged the Ethernet lead back in. I will send a clean executable to your PM Inbox.0 -
Your box is full again Nifty!!0
