If you don't have electricity with British Gas, but do have gas this credit was based on if you had the essentials tariff at the time it was withdrawn.0

How did you know that out of interest, as can't find any information ?
Did you get the £40 credit ?0 -
No, I work there.
You should have received something when the last price rise was annoucned (Oct/Nov last year) so can understand why it isn't obvious now - even if you did read it then.0 -

I have to assume things were in state of flux with government changes & arguments about energy pricing, as BG then suddenly reduced gas price on 1-Jan-14 without warning.
Only found out about that by accident when checking BG Fixed & Standard tariff prices online in January.
Ps: just seen your signature0 -
Finally just received a letter from British Gas that I qualify for this £40 Winter Top Up payment, even though it was credited to my bill in February; letter says it was announced during BG Price Change in Oct 2013.
Came in very helpful in reducing my winter gas bill0 -
I tel: British Gas in March regarding the £40. as I was on the essentials tariff, and got told this would be added to my next bill. I have just received my bill and haven't received the £40. On phoning and querying this, because I moved property in 2012 (due to further health problems had to move from house to bungalow), I am treated as a 'New Customer' so not connected with the essentials tariff.... Where does customer loyalty come into this, if on moving you are classed as a different customer. I have been with British Gas over 36yrs. Admittedly, the gentleman I spoke to, is going to look into this and contact me Thursday, but am not holding my breath, don't know whether to laugh or cry.0

if you move home you are in a new contract.
After 36 years, isn't it time to switch? BG aren't interested in customer loyalty. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Moving into this property which is totally different to prior home, and only started using gas heating in Dec. I did not have a gas usage estimate to go by, I will be looking into this later.0
