British gas cavity insulation questions & experiences?
Thinking of applying for this on behalf of my parents and just wondering if I can enter my own details on the MSE form with my parents address? as I want British Gas to deal with me rather than my parents. What details do they need when they call and later do the survey?
We're mainly interested in cavity insulation as there's already some loft insulation in place but definitely no cavity insulation. Do British Gas carry out the work or sub-contract it out? and is the work guaranteed and what type of insulation do they use? I read some are better than others? (i.e. poly beads etc and some horror stories with others re. damp or just not being done properly).
If you've already had it done by British Gas what was your overall experience with them? We're in the South East if it matters.
Might be 'free' but wary of just diving in
Thanks

BG called on me this week to offer free cavity wall insulation and informed me that in cavities less than 40mm they use glass fibre not beads.
I have read that before you have the cavities filled you need to be sure that there is absolutely no damp in the walls because the filling can spread the damp upwards.
And as a builder once told me - cavities are there for a purpose - to stop damp so I guess you have to make your own choice in this matter.
Once the cavities are filled there's no going back as it can't be taken out if you have problems, at least not as far as I know.
I chose not to have it installed after careful consideration.0
