ps3 wont play .mpg, what should i convert it too?

Hi, i have a .mpg file on my pc that i want to play on my ps3, i tried putting the two movie files onto a usb drive but the ps3 didnt recognise them.

Do i need to convert these .mpg files into .avi files so they can work on the ps3?

What free convertor program will do this for me please?

They need to be in a folder on the memory stick called VIDEO, have you done this?

Then press triangle and select Display All

That worked a treat mate, thanks alot

But the quality of the video is not great, is that because it is a .mpg and how it was compressed when i downloaded it?

Or is this how it is and i wont be able to improve the quality?
