FTP from Win 7 to Android

Thought I knew a bit about this but coming up short.
Bought an Android media box and I would like to 'connect' to it from a Win 7 PC. Do I need to have an FTP server running on the Android box or will it natively 'allow' connections somehow?
Do I need to use FTP or is there another easier way?
I think it would be easier to sit at the Win 7 PC and manage transfers from there.
Any advice would be appreciated.

What make/model is it?
What does the manual say?
I would have thought it would have an easier method than FTP to upload content. Doesn't it have a web interface to setup shares etc?0 -
When I had trouble getting my PC to recognise my phone via USB due to issues with drivers and what not. I generally fall back to managing files on the phone via "WIFI File Transfer" app in the play store. It provides a mini web server where you can manage your files remotely via a web interface. Its a bit basic but works as backup solution to do something quick.0

It depends on the android box!
It might already have folder sharing software installed (usualy it's "smb / Samba" in Linux devices, think it's the same for Android)
The "media" folders might already be shared and you might be able to add more.
Also does it actually need to store the files? most Android boxes just stream from a shared folder on another PC or internet feed (youtube / netflix. etc...) so as long as it can see a shared folder on your Main PC you'll be fine!Laters

Make/Model ? I think it is a clone of a GBox, after getting a magnifying glass to look through another magnifying glass looking at the flimsy manual I see there is no useful information.
It has USB ports so transferring is easy enough, I would like to at least try FTP and as I say I don't know as much about it as I thought.
WiFi File Transfer looks quite good, I was thinking 'could I use AirDroid'? which is quite similar.0 -
I prefer to use a cloud provider to transfer files between PC and Android - I use Dropbox, there's also Box, Google Drive, and others.
FTP is pretty easy though. Probably best to put the server on the PC - Filezilla Server is a good option - and use something like ES File Explorer on the Android box - it has an FTP client built in.0 -

Yeah - my Android phone supports CIFS (aka SMB, Samba, Windows filesharing) natively. Frustratingly it doesn't support NFS (which tends to be used by Linux/Unix systems).
I can also set up a server in VLC or Windows Media Player on my PC and stream the media to my phone.0
