Naughty Waitrose / Britannia Parking - using the "F" word !

Just popped into Brighton city centre and parked in the Waitrose car park. Long time in ages since I've been there and you used to just be able to park, shop and leave ( although you were meant to spend £5 in store ).

They've now employed Britannia Parking and as you enter a little man in a natty yellow jacket hands you a slip which says :

"Waitrose Car Park - for Waitrose customers only.

1 1/2 hours free parking
£10 minimum spend
£50 fine all other "

Hmmmm !!!!!

Apparently so. Be interesting to see what happens given my expenditure was somewhat less than that ( although I did spend £40 in a store ).

Does it come on Britannia Parking paperwork ?

Nope - just a photocopied scrap of paper clearly cut up by the work experience kid.

I have several of those scraps of paper with FINE on them and have debated it with the attendants who change every week - and some are just Waitrose girlies!

Also Britannia never write after a windscreen ticket is placed there. I know a friend who got one!

Our Waitrose employ Brittania but they don't seem to be taking it seriously. There is only one sign in the whole car-park and that's a small one affixed to the wall next to the entrance doors. So they have a snowball's in hell chance of ever taking anyone to court or to POPLA because of this lack of signage.

Oh that's reminded me that the Brighton one is the same - one sign that could easily be completely covered by a delivery lorry near the entrance to the small car park.

The Newark one isn't even at the entrance. As I said, it's screwed to the wall right next to the entrance doors. So you don't see it until you have parked up, walked across the car-park and are about to enter the shop.

Very disappointed in Waitrose. I'd be hopeful that a letter to Andy Street (John Lewis MD) explaining the issues would get a positive response: andy_street@johnlewis.co.uk

So, if I am visiting a town which has a Waitrose and I need a sandwich and a bottle of fizz for my lunch, is it going to cost me £50+. I think that I shall look for a cheaper shop.
