Can credit cards force early repayment?

I have learned something from this thread.

It worth knowing that card companies have started inserting these clauses into agreements.

After reviewing the terms on my cards, Halifax, Santander and Natwest CCs CANNOT demand immediate repayment after notice has been given about the closure, unless there is a good reason to. Others claim to be able to do so without any reason, although to do so without any reason may well fall foul of any of a number of pieces of legislation (eg: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/2008/9780110811574/regulation/6), or industry codes of practice, since this isn't mentioned in the key features documents, and could easily be abused.
eg: want 24 mths @ 0% for a 5% fee? Fine - but after 1 month we can demand repayment at 2 months notice, meaning you've been actually paying at >20% APR.
