Buying from BCA
Hi,
I was wondering if there was anyone/any company that for a fee would bid on my behalf at a BCA auction?
I don't necessarily want to buy from BCA but would like to see what goes at a few options and see if i can get any sort of saving?
Most of the cars I am interested are in are auctioned on weekdays and I really don't want to take a day off ...
Thanks,
Yashika

Of course there are, they are called car dealers. They buy a heap at auction, add a grand onto the price and sell it to you from their forecourt.
Seriously though, any auction house will have a facility for you to leave a bid with the auctioneer who will then bid on your behalf. Most of the auction houses have online bidding as well now.0 -
I'm pretty sure bca charge a registration fee to sift out time wasters and npb which is what ops trying to avoid.
I'm also sure it is against their terms.
If you don't want to buy and just want to see what they go for then why are you looking for someone to bid0 -
There are some that used to advertise in the back of WhatCar.
Usually charge you a percentage on the price of the car.0 -
After rereading thd first post i think what the OP wants is somebody to buy them a car. Use all their knowledge and experience to source a decent car at auction.
But then not pay them anything for this service.
I assume they would also like to be able to hold this person to account if the car was to have any issues or problems.0 -
To be fair the OP does say "for a fee"0

Mate....read what I posted..I am happy to pay someone, but yes I want to use their knowledge and experience and from what I understand if they are trade members they get better rates from BCA.
Anyone know someone that does this?
Regarding online actions, I believe you need a trade account to qualify for this.0 -

I'm not sure OF the viability of what you're proposing, and IF someone actually offers such a service.
Ultimately you're proposing someone bids for and buys a car from BCA on your behalf - presumably based on you reviewing the auction list and "picking" several cars you like the look of.
You would then pay them.
Where it all falls on its !!!! is if you instruct them to buy a car and it turns out to be a pup. With all the best will in the world, if its not "as described" you'll be knocking on the traders door demanding it be sorted OR worse still opt not to pay for it in the first place.
AND with all due respect, you've bought the car off the trader, so you automatically have "rights" under the SOGA extending at least 6 months beyond the purchase date.
PLUS, you're asking the trader to give you the benefit of all his experience - perhaps over the course of several auctions - until the right car comes along.
Unless you're looking for a very specific and rare car, i'm not sure why any trader would do this for you - even for a fee. He may as well just use his hard earned cash to buy the car he wants and sell it on and make his usual say £2,500 gross markup.
Other than a "confirmed" sale (of which if the cars a pup you'll walk away anyway) i'm not sure what the trader would be getting - given good cars are harder to find than customers (contrary to popular belief)0 -

That would be the risks i am seeing.
All the benefits of buying from BCA (trade price + a "fee"), but none of the risk as the trader will ultimately have to stand over it legally.0 -
You said you would pay a fee to get somebody to bid.
But if there was a mechanical issue?
Colour not just right?
What would you expect then?
As i said there are people that advertise in the back of WhatCar.
The typical fee is in the region of 5-8% of the purchase cost including auction fees off the top of my head
What kind of fee did the OP have in mind?
I assume they are going to give the bidder the funds in advance.0 -
I've heard of people who will source a car for you. You tell them what you want and they will find it for you whether from auctions, other traders, shady pals in the trade, etc etc.0
