Credit file tidy - Lloyds Bank being awkward

I am attempting to tidy up my credit file following bankruptcy in April 2008. I should have done it ages ago, but just never got around to it!
There were a handful of creditors who incorrectly recorded a default date after April 2008. All have corrected this when asked and, indeed, they should have dropped off the file by now. All, that is, except Lloyds Bank.
Last month, via Equifax, I asked them to change their default date from December 2014, to April 2014. They asked for a discharge certificate - which isn't something I am obliged to buy as far as I am aware. Equifax decided to take Lloyds' first answer and refused to pursue it for me (so I cancelled my subscription with them). I then decided to write to Lloyds directly, and they have again asked for a discharge certificate. Standard reply, I think.
I am right in thinking that I do not need a certificate, aren't I? I'm not trying to prove that I am discharged. I just want the date corrected. I sometimes think that to avoid the hassle, I may as well get a certificate organised, but I shouldn't need to now, surely?! It's been 6 years, afterall.
Has anybody got any words of inspiration to get them to simply do the right thing?

Nope. You don't need a discharge certificate for them to correct the default date.
If me I might write them a final warning, stating that if they don't comply then I will take them to the ICO and FOS.
So very roughly...
If they really wanted to check if you were discharged or not, they would not need a certificate anyway.
If your discharge had not come or had been suspended, your case would still be on the online register. If it isn't, you are obviously discharged as that is the only way it ever comes off.
