Yes, air conditioning is a definite bonus. I've even been known to go into a McDonalds - not for the food, but just to be able to sit somewhere cold for a while. Clean toilets and free wi-fi are also a benefit.

I really need to start planning my next trip too. I have been to Bangkok in 6 out of the last 7 years (in the other year I went to KL for a change and was underwhelmed by the place) and yet there are still lots of things I haven't done there.

We stayed in Silom, can highly recommend this place - http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/bangkok/trinity/ - very reasonable and really modern well equipped rooms. There is a fantastic restaurant about 2 mins across the road too with boutique rooms upstairs.
