Help on where best to save money/pay debts

Hi, new here

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this, if not can some one point me to the right section?

Anyway my husband and I are looking at moving house, as we have a 3 bed now and are expecting our 3rd child in September, we can probably make do for now but would ideally like to move in a years time.
We have never really had any savings accounts before and dont really know where to start with it all and how we can best make the most of our money, currently everything is just left in a current account (halifax reward) and we are just spending whatever we like on whatever, when we really should be more organised and have a plan in action.
I am 29 and husband 30

Could someone give me some advice on what i should be looking at or the best places to keep our cash untill we want to buy our next house, my budgets look like below, its all a bit baffling to me and i dont know where to begin

4900 - Husbands thp after tax, average
1800 - Total debt & household bills month
1000 - food, petro etc month average

We have £8000 in our current account, no savings accounts or isa's
We were thinking of putting £1000 a month into some form of savings account and then paying an extra £500 a month off our present mortgage, so that is reduced and left with more equity in our current home

we have a mortgage with £153k remaining at 2.45% and a secured loan that has £13k remaining over 25 years, not sure of the apr but its £96 a month

Current house value is approx £190k

I just dont know where to put it, there must be better places to have our £8k rather than just in current account, with it being there Im always out spending

any advice much appreciated
