Hi,
Out of interest did you consider going with StepChange or Payplan? Both of these provide free DMPs. I've been with Stepchange for a number of years and they've been great. I only ask as it could hurry things up a bit. They answer questions in the thread at the top of this forum page: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76 'Struggling with debt...'
But, regardless, most people as the DMP is gettting prepared will make only a token payment of £1 to creditors.

Hello there,
You can write to your creditors to let them know that you are in the process of applying for a Debt Payment Programme under the Debt Arranengement Scheme. You can ask them to hold action until the arrangement is set up. You may wish to offer a token payment to show goodwill although this is purely optional.
We have a sample letter that you can use on our website, you can find it here:

Hi,
That's what I said too!!
Anyhow, one of the benefits of Stepchange is that things will get moving very quickly, I think that when people have made the decision to start this, it's good to grab that momentum.
Let's face it the CAB isn't going to be annoyed - they'll be pleased you're getting good help and it frees up that appointment for someone else!
BTW, here's a thing I wrote ages ago about our DMP starting: http://moneyaware.co.uk/2011/09/my-debt-hell/

They have broad guidelines that set acceptable boundaries I guess is the best way to explain it. For example, we spend more on pets than they would really want to see - we can't do anything about that except wait for natural wastage!! So we claim the maximum for pets which is £20 pm and I, personally, capture the rest by claiming £5pw on magazines and newspapers (which I don't actually buy).
It is worth knowing that the folks at Stepchange really are not judgemental at all and, I'm sure, they will have heard many a hair-raising tale so are not shockable.

Sorry your feeling so low. Have you contacted stepchange? If you don't feel up to speaking to anyone have a go at the debt remedy tool on the stepchange website. If you take some positive action you may feel better for it.
