Account marked as settled, not default?

Hi

Hope this isn't a repeat question, I had a search and couldn't see this one..

Just did my Equifax report as am preparing to get a mortgage at some point in the next year. I thought it would look a lot worse then it does, as I was declined for an Argos interest free credit payment thingy 8 months ago and assumed this was due to my credit rating (I had some bumpy times in 2009, quite probably a CCJ in 2005 from council tax debt, which I settled direct with council but may have been in name of ex-partner,). however looking at file I am thinking this decline may have been to do with me being self employed and having a low income as it's all green and no defaults/ returned payments marked.

Anyway, there are some accounts that are marked as 'settled' in green. These are Virgin and O2 that I changed when I moved house in 2009. Are these defaults? or just showing that I closed the account? I think there was a problem with Virgin not switching over the name (my housemates wanted to continue the service) but am sure that was settled...

No. If they were default they would say default with a default date. They sound like just a normal closed account that was always recorded as being up to date while open.

Just to add that if you're applying for a mortgage in the next year then check your Experian statutory report too if not done so already. Oh, and limit the number of credit applications you make up until your mortgage too.

Thanks both, that's what I thought but wanted to make sure I wasn't being optimistic :D

Yes looks like our issue will be affordability so I am certainly not going to be applying for any more credit accounts, rather hoping to reduce our existing use (overdrafts).
