Speeding Summons Help

My dad bought a car on 6th March and because it needed some work done to it was retained by the garage for just over a week afterwards. He assumed the car was at the garage in the North East of England getting repaired. This morning he got a summons saying the car was caught speeding in East Sussex during the time the car was supposedly being repaired. The garage are denying knowledge of anything and the garage didn't provide any paperwork regarding this repair period so there is no proof my dad didn't have the car. Is there anything my dad can do? Thanks for any help.
The simplest solution is just to fill in the garage details on the NIP, and send it back.
Did he notice whether the mileage had gone up substantially during the time it was in their custody? NE -> Sussex -> NE is going to add at least 500 miles to the clock.
Cloned plate is the most likely answer, rather than garage malfeasance.0 -
How far away was it caught speeding from the garage?
Tell him to go back to the garage for something in writing stating what date he took receipt of the car. Or an invoice which shows the collection date. This should be prove enough he wasn't driving.0 -

sounds like the car that he has bought has got a ringer running about
crooks often trawl car sales website to find a car of the same make and colour that they have and then get a set of dodgy plates made up
they then run around with the cloned plates on racking up speeding fines parking fines and congestion charge non payment and running off without paying for fuel
if the plates have been cloned and the cloned car is used for crime it will have a police marker on it and every time you go out in the real car you risk getting pulled by the police
A freind of mine had fines for 30 days of unpaid congestion charges in London, living in wales he had never been to London in his life and the car was with him in work when most of the offences were committed
I was a nightmare for him to prove that it wasnt his car that had been in london, but the onus was on him to prove his innocent0
