Hi I know there are devices that you can play video s and DVD s but is there anything else that I can buy/use to copy my videos so that I can watch them first before getting rid along with my video recorder. I don't mean home made video s I mean shop bought ones with films on. Thank you

There is potential copyright problems with copying videos, however, there are some changes coming that could allow you to do it legally.
As for actually doing it, there are several ways, you will need some kind of video capture device in the pc, which you can plug the video player into. This will allow you to record what ever is on the videos onto the computer.0 -
Even if you managed to do it they will look terrible - you need to either buy them on DVD or download them from certain sites I can't mention.0

Maybe I'm missing something here - why can't you watch them using your video recorder ?0 -
many commercial tapes had copy protection, macrovision etc, to get around that, special leads are available
Free software is available for removing dvd protection
http://www.bdlot.com/dvd-iso-master/download.htm
Then you'll need a gizmo to digitise the vhs video's, and a lot of hard disk space and time.
You have to ask yourself, is it worth the time/effort, when you can just use a dvd player/vhs or wait for it to be on tv.!!

I've seen a DVD/video player for £200 but that's a bit steep I think .Maybe there are others around cheaper . I ll have a look.0 -
