Random money in my bank from JSA, anyone know what it could be for?

Hey guys.

For 6 months I was on contribution based JSA, 2 months ago it ran out and I've just been signing on to get national insurance contributions so no actual money from them.

I signed off on Friday and I have started a new job and today they have put £170ish in my bank account and I have no idea why. They usually only gave me £140 back when I received money off them so I have no idea what this is for.

Does anyone know why it is there?
My account was overdrawn when they deposited it and if they ask for it back I will not have the full amount as some was taken by my bank (only £15). Would that land me in trouble.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks

  • It's paid in arrears.

When was your last payment of £140?
  • It was the first week of Feb, haven't had anything from them since.
