Want to return car boot liner but don't have original packaging :(

We ordered a specific boot liner for our new 14 plate skoda estate car and DH put it in on Tuesday and then being conscientious put the box in the recycling which was collected yesterday ... but the fit of the boot liner is awful
There are gaps all the way around the sides and it overlaps some of the anchoring hooks so they can't be used and the wheel arch dividers which create pockets can't be used either.
It wasn't cheap and I'd like to complain to the company that supplied it to either return it for a refund or a properly fitting one - I wonder if it being a brand new shape car the boot liner designs haven't caught up albeit the company said this would fit.
Can anyone advise if I will be able to return without the box and if there is any legislation I can quote if they start getting difficult?
Many thanks!!
Ps - this is why I always hold on to a box for a few weeks before recycling!

I'd say that you were returning it under the sales of goods act as not fit for purpose, this dosent require you to have the packaging for it though to argue you werent accepting it after having already disposed of the packaging is a bit of a pain0

Has the boot shape changed or anything with your car being no more than a few months old?
What's the description of the product?
I suspect its design is based on the older models and the newer ones have changed slightly making it slightly the wrong shape and siZe0 -
The website (and customer services who I spoke to) has it listed as a boot liner for a Skoda Octavia estate 2013 onwards.
At £60 I expect it to fit and it doesn't fit like the pictures on the websiteI've had other boot liners in previous cars and they've always fitted perfectly, hence my disappointment with this one.
I shall give them a call but I'm not looking forward to it

Does their website state you must get a return number or such?
If not, return it with a covering letter stating that the item is not as described and so you are returning it under the SOGA0 -
So far, so good. I've spoken to their customer service and sent them photos of the boot liner in place showing the poor fit.
They are going to speak to the German manufacturers and let me know what they say.
The chap I spoke to was very helpful and certainly gave me the impression it's something they'd like to sort out.
Will update as soon as I know anything, thanks in the meantime!!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
