Just realised it's turned my AV off and my malware bytes is now in a foreign language ! Did a boot time scan but it showed nothing. I can't however turn my AV back on now .A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Have you got an Avast Recovery CD? You can usually burn one from a running version of most AV programs. If so, boot the machine from that and it will run an OS in RAM to enable you to do a full 'offline' scan of the machine and deal with any discovered viruses etc. Actually, it doesn't need to be an Avast CD - any of the AV programs will do it. If you haven't got one, maybe borrow one or if you have access to another uninfected machine download from one of the AV provider websites.0
