It was suspiciously easy too. Not quite as easy as DNLA (since that's built into my phones video player, and my smart TV) but it means I can use the ChromeCast to stream films to non-smart TVs wirelessly.
I am trying to get my head round all this.
My TV has DLNA so I have been trying to stream media to it from my desktop using Servioo. I can also steam the media to my android smart phone using an app to connect to the Servioo media server.
It's not as easy as I first thought as the TV and smart phone will not play certain media files so you have to add software like VLC and other codecs to Servioo. Hopefully I will sort that out in a few days and then move on to Chromecast for the other non-smart tv.0 -
The app i use is called 'LocalCast' to send mp4s from my phone to Chromecast
To send from my PC to my TV, i use.. well, i click 'Play To' and it just works. I've got Windows 8 on my PC and i think it's built in.
The easiest thing is just to put stuff on my NAS; which is DLNA compliant. Then my smart TV can just pick stuff off there easily0 -

I am using Windows 7. From what you say it appears Win8 handles this much better! My video files are a mixture of mts, mkv, avi and mp4 so it looks like I may have to rework some of them if I don't use VLC.0 -
What about using Plex?0

Thanks. I will have a look at it.0 -
I bought a Chromecast today. Seems pretty nice so far. I think it has a lot of potential in the future, even if it doesn't do a lot now.0
