Immunotherapy for dogs

We currently own 3 German Shepherds. Our oldest (3 year old male) has developed a skin allergy which responded well initially to Apoquel medication but after the initial loading dose and the reduction to the basic dose, the itching returned.
Our dermatologist specialist has advised that we try immunotherapy to treat the allergy. It has a 60% success rate and is cheaper per month than the Apoquel.
We are not insured for this condition, thus we are paying for it ourselves. Whilst I have no issues with that, and we will do whatever we need to do, I don't want to put our boy through the tests etc for it and pay, a significant amount, of money with little result.
Has anyone had their pet treated with this?

Have you found out what he is allergic to? The best cure is to prevent the allergy flaring up. It would be my first step before even thinking about dosing up my dogs.
My girl had a lumpy allergy rash all over her undercarriage for a couple of years, she lost all her fur there and was often raw from scratching. It took a while of ruling out different things before we tried her on a wheat free food (actually for my boy's runny tum) within weeks her skin cleared up and over time her fur grew back. I don't know how it got missed in allergy testing at the vets but it's made the world of difference.0 -
I have a shar pei,a breed notorious for skin conditions. We feed her JWB cereal free, we also supplement with sardines in oil 3 or 4 times a week. My breeder also swears by a drop of cider vinegar in the water but Rosie won't have it lol. She has a shower every 2 weeks or so and this regime seems to work for her.
I think I'd look into changing the diet and supplements first before therapies unless of course you've already tried that.Hope you get it sorted0
