Moving Direct Debits from one Bank to another

Following a review of my Banking I have opened an account with a new Bank (not Switching) and wish to transfer some DD's to there.
In the past, from what I remember, when becoming the customer of a supplier, they send out a DD form, which the customer completes and returns.
1. Is there a downloadable 'generic' DD form which I can complete and then forward to each supplier, together with a covering letter, or will I have to contact each supplier and 'request' their own variant concerning the subject?
2. How long after the supplier receiving the request could I expect them to 'action' the instruction.
Thanks in anticipation.

Most banks now only move your DDs, and SOs, if they can also close your old account. In return for this, they provide a guarantee that if something goes wrong, they will correct it at no cost to you. http://www.paymentscouncil.org.uk/switch_service/
But it is very easy to switch Direct Debits and SOs yourself. Many utilities, phone companies and credit card companies allow you to do it online. Just log into your account and change it. Best time to make the change is shortly after they have taken a payment.0 -
Paper forms aren't needed nowadays and it's easier just to call (or do it online).
Normally they send you a confirmation with all new details.
Don't *expect* anything and don't cancel the old DD. Be prepared that it can be taken from either account.0 -
Thanks both. Never fear. I'd no intention of 'cancelling' existing DD's and have funds to cover them to be taken from either account.
Since posting, I've found some 'generic' forms at

Again, thanks.0 -
You seem to make the matter way to complicated. If you don't want to make the changes online, just pick up the phone to the payees and ask them to change the sort code and account number they are taking your bills from.0

Quite the contrary. Having found the link, I was just making it available.
Thanks again.1 -
The generic forms will be of little or no use to you at all; these are templates from which the Service User may create a paper template should they wish. Without the Service User Number, full Service User Name and BACS Short Name, they are invalid. The final form also needs to be agreed by the sponsoring bank before it holds any water.
You need to contact the companies concerned to get the right forms.43580 -
just phone the company to change the DD....simples
