Circular Saw

Hi just purchased a new circular saw and can understand most of the operational instructions apart from one particular part of the saw.
Its the depth adjustment pivot shaft knob at the front of the saw.
Please can someone tell me what this is for and how and when to operate it.
Also what amount of teeth would you recommend for cutting 15mm contiboard.
My intentions are to tape the cut line with insulating tape before the cut so hopefully to get a neat edge.
(Got the tip from Youtube)
I am trying to get away with the supplied blade which is a
185 20x2.5mm 24T

Just leave the depth on the max setting (probably as it was bought) and cut with the side you want neat underneath.

The supplied blade will probably be OK. Do a test cut and check.

Work safe, assuming it's a portable saw and not a table saw make sure the work is well supported so it will not move( clamp to bench ?) the cable is over your shoulder and both hands stay gripped to the tool till blade is totally stopped and wear eye protection

. . . and count your fingers after every cut.



The depth adjustment enables you to erm . . . adjust the depth of the cut.
ie lower the base plate and just cut a groove (of whatever depth you've set it at) into the timber.

Thanks a lot guys cable over shoulder and I will defo count my fingers after the cut lol you have helped a lot and I will get back hopefully with all fingers and let you know how it went.
Hopefully from home and not from hospital lol

You should only set the blade just deeper than the material you are cutting and use a straight edge to get a neater cut.

And unplug the thing before making any adjustments to the depth gauge, parallel guide or angle etc.

Speaking of the angle, you may need to adjust that to make sure the blade is cutting square.

We had a nice old guy who did our carpentry for us when I was an apprentice...
His eyesight wasn't very good...
He drew his line he wanted to cut with his pencil, then he would FEEL WITH HIS FINGERS for his pencil line to find where he needed to cut with the circular saw.


Needless to say I couldn't watch!!!!
