Arrangement on Credit File

Hi, can anyone help with my query?

In February I changed a loan repayment from 22nd Feb to 2nd March. I asked if I could pay double on the 2nd March due to an unforeseen bill. The company agreed and I thought no more of it. They then made a !!!!-up and didn't take double on the 2nd March, so I contacted them and the additional payment was made on the 6th March.

I've now had a credit card application declined due to an arrangement on my credit file by the loan company. I contacted the loan company who said its because the account had been in arrears for those 4 days to which I'm obviously a bit annoyed about as it was their mistake. The Loan company say they cannot remove the arrangement and it will drop off my file in a month automatically as my account is not in arrears.

Is it correct that they can't remove information they put on my file? and does, as they say, an arrangement automatically drop off my file after a month of not being in arrears? will this then be the 6th April since account was made up to date on the 6th March?

thanks in advance.

They could remove it if they wanted to.

In terms of the arrangement ceasing, usually it would show that there had been a arrangement but that it had now ceased and you were back up to date with payments (so it wouldn't be as though it was never there, others searching your file would still be able to see it). That said they may mean they intend to remove it altogether so that it wouldn't be visible at all.

  • thanks for the reply. I didn't think it sounded right what I was told that they can't remove the information they put on. Do you think an email explaining my situation would do any good for it to be removed? the operative on the phone flat out said they can't remove things they put on and it will come off automatically. its a bit frustrating to think it could be on there for years!

Definitely worth a shot writing/emailing asking them to reconsider removing it due to the circumstances and them failing to take the second payment as agreed.

I guess you could wait until next week just in case they do remove it altogether (and if they haven't then they cannot use the same logic as the operative to suggest it will be removed next month).
