Its a privilege and a pleasure but having three at three is hard work and exhausting especially while trying to work. For instance my one year old had just figured out how to get on the sofa but not get off safely so I am usually running between working at my desk in the kitchen and getting her off that approx 100 times a day then my 2 year old has figured out how to open stair gates but not close them so that has to be dealt with and the three year old just doesn't shut up! So yes it can be hard work and I think any mum would agree that its a full time job by itself.:)0 -
Unfortunately, many have used the system the way you are, hence this finally coming to an end. I woudn't have reacted to your post as no different to many and you can always justify that you are only doing what the system allows you to do -for now- if it wasn't for your comment how at least you get to look after your own children rather than putting them in childcare as if that made your choice a good deed.
I personally think that children are much better off in nusery with parents who work and save money than those staying at home to look after them, but struggling to buy food as a result and building up debts which will have to repay at some point to the detriment of these children.0 -
Though some years off, if it ever gets implemented at all, you should research how Universal Credit will operate when tax credits are scrapped and numerous separate benefits get bundled together as a single monthly UC payment.
Currently, the benefits system is quite generous to the self employed with low incomes (for example, the in-work benefits in the UK are much higher than many other EU countries, many have systems that discourage part time or low paid self employment).
But the current govt has signalled that they are very unhappy with the long-term benefit dependency of the self employed and so UC will bring in changes to try to encourage the SE to either improve their profit or wind up their businesses and take up regular employment.
The capping of our massive and ever growing welfare bill, is going to have a major effect on claimants finances too. Present claimants wanting more and new claimants wanting money too, is going to mean big cuts in benefit amounts because the capped welfare pot will have to be shared around.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Can I just mention that I do work and I do work very hard. I work around the children meaning sometimes I go to bed at three in the morning in order to do that. Both my husband and I lost our employed jobs and when realising we would be on JSA for a long long time as the area we live there is not much going we decided to set ourselves up as self employed. When I talk about high tax credits I am not talking crazy money I am saying around 450 with three kids per month. I am also not saying I am amazing for doing this ie working from home. My husband is currently out working and will be until about 11pm. We work from home in that we have an office but my husbands work in particular means he needs to be out most evenings. All I wanted to know was if there was help available to get us through a rough patch. Many thanks to those who have given me info I will apply I have got all my accounts ready today and will now make a start on both tax returns.0

If you are working until 3am in the morning and only bringing in £250 per month in sales then it really isn't a viable business. You are living on benefits and kidding yourself you are "working". There is a third option - earn enough to not be reliant on any type of benefits. Surely that should be the norm - not either the government pays me to run my hobby and raise the three kids I chose to have - or I get a low paid job and let the government pay me a wage top up/my childcare costs.0

All judgemental posts have breached forum etiquette and rules. It's a shame that some newbies are put through the mill. Ignore the non-constructive posts. You do not need to justify yourself. Posters should stick to answering the benefit entitlement query directly.
The Turn2us online benefit checker is a very helpful wizard to help you understand your benefit entitlements. I didn't realise til now that this website was not recommended to you.0 -

I think the first judgemental post was made by OP herself by stating that AT LEAST she was looking after her own kids and not putting them into childcare.0
