Scottish Power Incorrect Bills
I have Scottish Power for both my gas and electricity.
My old tariff was Online fixed January 2014 which should have ended around the 1st January 2014 (i think)
I had an email from them at the end of last year offering another fixed deal (cant remember the exact tariff but think it was fixed until 2015 sometime). I agreed to this tariff.
I always enter my readings on the 1st of each month and try to run my account as well as possible.
I logged in today and realised that they had not changed my account over and have been billing me for the last 3 months incorrectly. I phoned them, they said will correct this and backdate all my bills.
I am a bit worried now that after entering readings monthly and making sure i have the available funds to cover my bills, that after there mistake this will leave me short?
Are they allowed to suddenly recover money (all in one go) from a mistake made on there part for incorrect bills?

If you are paying by direct debit then it will be revised and you will have twelve months to repay the money.
If you are paying quarterly then, yes, they can correct mistakes and will ask for the balance - but you can arrange to repay it over a longer period if wanted.0 -
If they've billed you for 3 months on Standard tariff, then a 12m fix should be cheaper. Just compare the rates on what you thought you has switched to vs Standard.
And ask for a small discretionary credit for the 'inconvenience': £10 or £20 is not unreasonable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you for all the replies. I think i have had enough of Scottish Power now for one lifetime. Just had the annual review, £95 in credit, but they estimate my monthly direct debit needs increasing from £62 to over £70. My useage last May to September was less than £40 per month for both gas and electricity.
I have just had the warm home discount payment which has helped put my account into a credit.
I would sooner have a tariff that charges slightly more per unit of power and gives the option to pay for bills monthly or quarterly by using actual useage figures. I dont like paying over £70 into Scottish Powers bank over the next 5 months when my actual useage will only be around £40 per month. I know the reason why they do this, i have to start paying for next winters useage at the start of this May?
Anyway my question now is the tariff they have put me on to 'Online fixed Price Energy Febuary 2015' has a £50 early exit fee. But has the ability to move to another Scottish Power product without paying this fee.
If i was to move onto there 'Online Standard Tariff' which has no early termination fee, could i then leave Scottish Power without paying a termination fee?
