Hi,
I am posting for my son, he is changing to a 4 year course and will be doing a year in industry placement. I was just wondering what loans he would be entitled to during this year? Also afterwards would his income from that year affect his student loan for the final year of his degree?
Thanks

It might be a bit out of date as I did my placement in 09-10 so I was on the old loans system but I got half loan for the year. I was paid during my time in industry and as I was in Europe my fees were covered by the EU and I received a bursary.
Nothing I was paid nor the bursary affected my loan for final year as my personal circumstances hadn't changed.
Your son's uni should have a placement office who should know all about this as I expect they are asked the same questions each year. We were provided with plenty of info from the uni (I did life sciences in Manchester) with everything we needed before we went on placement.
Hope that helps0 -
Thanks for the info
My son will be able to get it all sorted out when he returns to uni after easter.0 -
I've just finished placement and I received half payment for the year..with a £1 tuition fee
Hope this helps0 -
When my son did his year in industry, it was a paid placement at £16000 per annum Therefore he didn't get any loans or grants and had to pay the uni £650 tuition fees out of this. This paid for his 2 visits (which I think became 1 visit during the year) from his tutor.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Either you/your son has got the wrong end of the stick, your son has lied to you or he's received some poor advice. Students' earnings are NEVER assessed as part of the student loan application, only their unearned income (like savings interest or dividends from shares...) is taken into account.
A fee loan is available for the full fee same as other years and a maintenance loan is available to all students regardless of income, although this is at a reduced rate. Same as other years, there is a basic non-means tested amount that everyone is entitled to and a means-tested top up.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
