This month I have learnt I need an emergency fund or buffer, I've started them before but always ended up giving up with them and paying it off my debt.
Since my LBM I have been paying off debts but this month has caught me out. 3 birthdays car tax,mot and a couple more expenses, so much so I may have to borrow some more money ( but only a bit ) whatever I do I will owe considerably less then I did at the start of this. In future I'm going to put money away monthly to cover these costs. I will update my sig accordingly if and when I borrow it. 😱😱

Anyway my pad today is 76p please mandz1

    Hi Milky

I don't have an emergency fund as such at the moment but what I do is I save a set amount of money in to savings 'pots' each month. These are with the same bank I have my current account with so I can easily move money around.

I save £30pm for car tax, £30pm for car repairs and then money for the animals (just used my whole fund plus extra as had a poorly cat) and birthdays etc.

I didn't save for medical things and then this month I spent £274 on glasses:eek: so I am going to start saving for medical @ £30pm.

Obviously for the first few months you might not have enough to cover birthdays, for instance, so you either have to cut back or you take the rest from your current account (or credit card) but at least you have saved something towards it.

I am trying to pay off one of my credit cards - when I have done this I will use it as my emergency fund as my credit cards are on high interest and I need to get them paid asap. I know some people are not lucky enough to have credit available to them - in that instance they would need an emergency fund.

Sorry to ramble on - what bank do you bank with as I know Halifax, TSB and Santander have savings accounts linked to current accounts and you can change the name on them. I am sure most of the others do as well.

Beautiful and sunny and warm here lately - but the mornings are darker now. I don't mind too much as long as it's light by the time I leave for work but I hate it when I have to go out in the dark in the morning, I find it much harder to get going. On a brighter note I have made a PAD of £24.40 today please Mandz
