Short term car advice

Options
I haven't learned to drive despite trying a few times (failed twice) and now my OAP parent-in-laws are visiting from middle-of-nowhere-USA, and I will need some form of transport to ferry them around. So I need to buy a car and learn to drive it by August. The missus can drive (automatics only), so she can help me learn. But apart from these two reasons (learning to drive + parent-in-laws visiting) we don't need a car for our lives.

My plan is buy a car for £2000-3000, learn to drive, show the in-laws around Blighty a bit and then sell it on after 3-4 months.

My questions are:
a) Can I buy a goodish car for £2000-3000? Where should I look? Ebay? Garages? Auto-Trader?
b) What brands are good?
c) How much will insurance be per month for an experienced driver + new driver as a additional (we're both 29)?
d) Will the car value depreciate much over 3-4 months?

Cheaper for them to hire one and drive you around?

I paid just over £2000 for my car in 2009 and its still going strong. At that price you buy on condition alone.
I dont go out and say i must have a pillarbox red in a specific spec. I buy because the car has been looked after and serviced before the maximum limits.

New driver in the wrong area and you may need another £2000 for insurance. Right postcode and the right car you maybe looking at less than £1000 if your lucky.

Are you learning in an auto also? Can someone with an auto licence teach someone in a manual car?

Will it depreciate. Most likely. If you buy a lemon you may get £200 scrap for your £2000 or £3000 car.
