I wouldn't have stopped op - not for a wing mirror bump.
As for the guy whoes mirror costs £500 :eek:
What car is this on? Never seen a car which doesn't have an easy on easy off method. Few screw covers, screws and unclip the wiring loom. Must be one hell of a wing mirror at that price
It was just an ordinary BMW e60 5 series - nothing special at all.
Some more recent models have much more expensive mirrors.

How can this be? I was on my side of the road, I didn't reduce the gap the oncoming driver did by trying to squeeze passed a parked car.
Please elaborate further Mark _ Mark.
You reduced the gap by the width of your car.0 -
No. The parked cars reduced the gap and obstructed the other driver from using his designated side of the road. If the guy wanted to share the other lane then he should have waited for it to become free
That's not what the Road Traffic Acts says. Had the OP not have been there this wouldn't have happened.0 -

Quite - not that it is the OPs fault by the account given, but they were involved in the collision and strictly speaking should exchange details. I agree the police would not be in the least bit interested, but would take the details to pass on if required.0 -

The actual wording used by the Road Traffic Act is "where, owing to the presence of a (vehicle) on the (road), an accident occurs..." It's a very broad wording and doesn't require that there be any element of blame on your part, or that you be directly involved in the collision, it just requires that the accident would not have happened had your vehicle not been on the road. Arguably had you not been on the road the other guy would have given the parked car more room and the accident would not have happened, so by a strict reading yes you should have stopped. In practice I wouldn't expect there to be any comeback for you for not stopping though... unless the other driver were to claim that you swerved yourself, forcing him to swerve into the parked car, in which case things would get a bit more complicated.0 -
In the real world, I'd just relax and forget about it now. No doubt, in the time everyone has pontificated over the issue the two drivers have sorted it.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
