Does anyone know what's happened to getfreehosting.co.uk?

I assume that everybody keeps an offline copy of their website to enable them to recreate it on another site? If so then downtime of 2 or 3 days while things get switched over & DNS gets updatedThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. The Getfreehosting FTP server is still up and running. I copied my entire web site to my PC, so it's not too late to recover all your files.
I have now registered with another free hosting service and my site is up again.
Incidentally, this afternoon I received an email from Getfreehosting News advising me of a number of improvements that have been made, mostly to the premium (paid for) service. However, nothing about the overriding un-improvement, i.e. they've let their domain registration lapse!
But who knows perhaps the bill will be paid and it will be back?0 -
I'm using FileZilla.
Have just checked (17:20 today) and the Getfreehosting FTP server is still available and responding.0 -
Hi, i used these, and still do, it's true they allowed their domain to expire however they are a part of a paid hosting company called bytehost.
I raised a support ticket with the paid hosts and while they did not explain what had happened with the domain expiry they reassured me all data was safe and to change my DNS to
ns1.byet.org
ns2.byet.org
I did this and after propergation my getfreehosting.co.uk site was fully working again with no data loss :j
Hope this helps

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Just to clarify with regard to FTP, the host is ftp.getfreehosting.co.uk right? I'm using FileZilla to connect, but it keeps failing. It says "Connection time out. Could not connect to server."{Removed by Forum Team}0

Thanks djbmr.
I have changed my DNS as you suggested and can now access my website again.
To use Control Panel you can use your existing Getfreehosting Username and Password here:
cpanel <dot> byethost <dot> com (sorry not allowed to post links apparently).
Thanks again - sorted!0 -
Nice of them to let people know
Bizarrely, I had an email from Getfreehosting a few days ago, offering larger amounts of webspace but no mention of the outage.
No matter, they lost any future business from me.
