iomega storage device

So a few years back I bought an iomega storage device and transferred all my old photos to it. It was set up connected to an old laptop which has now died. The problem I have is that I cannot seem to be able to get the storage drive to work with any other device. If I plug it into the network hub nothing happens and if I plug it directly into another laptop the system starts the trying to connect to a network process.
I seem to recall that I set the storage device up with a CD, will I still need the special software from it to install on a new laptop, just I'm not sure where the CD now is.

Is it listed in Device Manager? If so, have you tried searching for drivers?

As the previous poster said, what is it - a Zip drive, maybe?

Thanks for help already guys. Yes its a 1TB NAS. Had it for a few years and when I set it up I set it up I plugged a network cable into the device and then to the network hub and configured the CD from a laptop on network. At the time I could then see all the pictures on all 3 home computers as well as sons PS3. However not used it for a while and so have lost the box, instructions CD etc as well as having changed the home hub and now the laptop has gone. So I was just trying to connect the lan cable directly to another laptop which clearly wasn't working. There is a USB slot on back as well, are you saying that if I can just get a usb to usb cable it should connect and work?

It might be worth trying to download a copy of the manual from somewhere.

    usb cable should work

generally not a good idea to put all your data eggs in one basket, if you don't have the data elsewhere.

you may be able to map a drive to the share using a network cable, it needs to be plugged into a router/homehub network port

these may help identify the ip address and share name

if you don't have a usb cable around, they are often on sale in pound shops

As dcm says, the Ethernet cable needs to go from the Nas to your router. Your laptop should then pick it up on the network. You may not need the CD to view and move the contents.
Have you got an exact model number. I think I remember one that had a red lead to attach pc/laptop direct.

If you go into Windows Explorer and click on Network, does it show there? If so, can you click on its icon to browse the contents of the NAS?
