What is "second chance offers"?

Options
Hi,

I've finally made my first couple of sales on ebay!!

Both have come up with a message saying "this is eligible for second chance offers" - pls can anyone enlighten me as to why and what this means?

Many thanks.
Regards,

I think your find it's so you can offer the item to offer as a second chance of buying the item to a bidder who was the next bidder down on your item. I was sent this from a seller who for some reason the winner did not want to go through with the sell. He offered it to me as I was the next bidder on the list from the winner. But there are others on here who know a lot more about ebay than me.
Thanks for any help and advice given

I would be cautious of 2nd Chance Offers with some sellers particularly when you are quickly told that the high bidder does not want it etc (as above), they can be used in conjunction with shill bidding to obtain a higher price for the item.
I personally do offer them legitimately where I have more than one of an item and the item has made a good price.

I use SCOs a lot to sell identical items, I love them. As the others have said it is a legitimate way of offering your underbidders the chance of having an identical item (assuming you have more than one of course) at their highest price bid.

If you have another of the same item you can offer another bidder the chance to buy it and you don't pay listing fees. I use this fairly often when I have identical items.
