In September I bought a mac while on holiday, last month I put it on only to find the bottom fastening had broken.
When I emailed the company they sent me a prepaid label to return it, I had another email asking me what I would like to do. I just wanted a mac, but as there was no longer selling this exact item I had to pay another £15.05, as they would only refund bot replace.
I said I didn't think that was fair, as a refund wouldn't keep me warm or dry, but they wouldn budge. I then realised I didn't know where I stand, can anyone help me please.

they have offered a refund so have fulfilled their obligations, some companies may offer a more expensive replacement in that situation but that would be purely a goodwill issue they are under no obligation to do so0

I had a feeling that might be the case, I am very disapointed with Seasalt £99.99 on a mac that I thought would last me years. Then had to pay more when it broke.
Thanks for your reply Lomast.0 -

Thanks for your reply Lomast.
Alternatively, you had the free use of a hundred pound Seasalt mac for 6 months then chose to spend £115 on a replacement.
Personally I think it is decent customer service for them to give you a full refund on a 6 month old mac. If they no longer sell the same one, I'm at a loss to work out how you expect them to magic up a replacement identical one for you...0 -
Look for one on eBay.0

Thanks for the sarcasm it always does arise on MSE eventually. I paid for the mac after saving for 18mths, so how did I have free use.
Where did I say I wanted exactly the same garment, I just asked where I stood, the fastening is not repairable which I didn't know when I made the purchase.
I wonder if you would be happy at an expensive purchase only lasted 6mths, I hoped it was a worthwhile investment.
hollydays. As an end note I checked ebay all the time I was saving, only shorter ones came up. I am a slow walker so needed as much coverage as I could.0 -

It wasn't sarcasm by vuvuzela, simply a factually correct post.
You bought a mac for £100, had 6 months use from it before it broke and were then given your full purchase price back, which equates to your having 6 months use of the garment at no charge.
If the retailer wished, they could have given you a partial refund to take into account the time that you had use of the mac but they didn't do this.0 -

No I didn't ask for my money back.
No I didn't/couldn't have a repair, but would have been happy with one.
No I didn't have free use of the mac I paid for it.
No they didn't have the same colour but did have the same mac.
No I havn't complained about customer service.
No I didn't pay £115.00 for a replacement
I was quite happy at Lomast answer & said although disapointed I thought that was the case.
Would I shop at Seasalt again if I could Yes.

But if they do refund your purchase price, then you will have had use of the thing from September until March at no cost.
That is where the 'free use' suggestion comes from.0 -
THanks but they didn't refund neither did I want a refund.Thank You though. xx0
