I read that as 'unfortunately I'm booked on a flight to Canada' at first

Whatever you get, bring one of these to keep the juice topped up

For some reason (possibly being squashed by the Kindle tablet in sales!), the Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ has an absurdly low price, despite its phenomenal screen. You can pick up a brand-new 32GB one for about £110 on eBay and stick a 32GB MicroSD card inside for an extra tenner.
It's a 9" Android tablet with a 1920x1280 screen and a surprisingly-decent dual-core CPU. It also feels very solid and sturdy - it won't win any sexiness awards like a £400 Sony tablet, but it certainly feels like you could beat an alpaca to death with it.
Two problems:
1. No cameras.
2. Proprietary connector (not Micro-USB), so you'll likely add *at least* £15 onto the cost at some point during ownership to get a second cable.
Because the screen is very high resolution (high PPI (pixels per inch)), it does a good job as an ereader (for reading books on the tablet), although I wouldn't say it beats e-ink. Note that it will read Kindle books as well as B&N books and generic ebooks.
When checking reviews, note that it was released over a year ago with a price tag of over £200 and no access to Google Play. It now has the full Play store and is half the price.
Battery life is 9.5 hours for watching videos, apparently.
Have you considered a proper Kindle ebook for reading? Not the locked-down Android tablets, but the e-ink readers that last for months on a single charge, can be read comfortably one-handed, and don't strain your eyes?Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

Not on Air Canada RougeJane x0 -
Your options are limited. From what I've read, you can only stream to a laptop with Flash Player installed or an Apple device. No option to provide this on Android devices currently.
Oh, and if you are lucky enough to find your seat has a power socket, it will be standard US domestic socket, so take an adaptor.
Streaming sounds like a great idea, but AC don't seem to have thought this through properly.

This is why I'm thinking of a cheap tablet and stick a couple of films on it,some music etc. Air Canada Rouge is a real budget airline.and then you have to pay for the FilmsJane x0 -
I fly regularly and use a Nexus 7 on board for storing video, music and podcasts. You could also use it as an e-reader too but I take a separate Kindle as the battery lasts for ever.
Just make sure you buy some good noise cancelling headphones too. The ones that airlines supply are usually rubbish and often have a non-standard audio adaptor.0
