What a lovely uplifting post fb, I wish my local freecycle was better, in fact I now put stuff at the end of my driveway with a free to a good home label and its usually gone within an hour.
Would much rather give it to someone who genuinely needs it.SPC Nbr.... 1484....£800 Saved £946 in 2013)

Great stories everyone! Isn't it lovely when you find out the story behind things. I have been having a clear out to make way for baby (nesting?) and I took so many things to the tip that could probably have been used/mended by someone else.0

On year I was determined the lads & I would grow food.
On Freecycle a lady who'd had phenomenal success with her tomato plants had offered the spares & was charmed to meet three small would-be gardeners. Bless her, she not only helped them each choose a plant, but gave me clear guidance on where to locate the growbag we had waiting.
Fate intervened. It rained for at least an hour a day every day for the rest of the month. In waterproofs & wellies, the lads would come to see how their plants were doing (gradually sliding downslope) & eventually we agreed that maybe this year we weren't going to grow our own tomatoes.
"After all", opined one child, "how can it grow when it's busy learning to swim?"
I forget quite how, but we ended up with a second dryer. Needing the space more than the drying capability, we put it on Freecycle & I was stunned but delighted when a petite housewife & her ten year old lad managed to heft it into the boot of their car. We were all very pleased - her even more so as her mother had just had a hip operation & had been trying to carry laundry in & out from the line. We rolled our eyes at mothers, crutches & their refusal to listen to doctors once they were home!0 -
Great story.
I once gave away a 2 seater sofa to some local students via FC.
Bless them, they carried it all the way back to their accommodation which was a good 40 minute walk uphill lol0 -
This is a nice thread! I once found out that the newspaper, The Times had been giving away a free CD of the live Noel Gallagher Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert hall (years ago) on a Sunday and had missed it. I tried my luck on freecycle and a lovely gentleman posted me his and refused postage money. I still listen to it all the time

I gave away a guinea pig hutch after ours sadly passed away. I was quite surprised to get an email from the recipients guinea pigs telling how delighted they were in their new home :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0

Hi everyone. it is that time of year again! spring clear out!
Mind you! I am continuing on from last year.
I tend to have little clear outs as when you have lived in a house for 30 years stuff collects. You buy better quality stuff and the old one gets squirreled away.
So now I have a clear out and give things to grown up children - just starting their own homes. All sorts of stuff have a new home and makes mine look so much tidier. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
A few years ago now my neighbour (sadly passed on now), decided to give up her deep fat fryer. I offered to put it on FC.
She was amazed at what the internet could do
Anyway, the person who wanted it was also elderly so I offered to drop it off. Took my neighbour with me as I was taking her shopping later that day.
The two met and became firm friends and started writing to eachother. When I had the time I'd take my neighbour to see her new friend (it was about a 40/50min round trip).
Lovely memories of seeing them so happy.
I've FC'd a lot of things, mostly dropping them off if it's someone who is elderly. The only time I've refused to hand over an item (bedside cabinets) is when I saw three sets in the lounge. I figured the person was selling them so took them away.
I do like looking at freecycle and for distraction make it into a game. I find the "wanteds" and see if I can match them up with offers. it's good fun

We got rid of our pine table and 4 chairs. They were taken by a newly divorced Dad, who was nearly in tears because it meant he could have his children sitting at the table for meals when they visited him, instead of having to balance things on the sofa arm or picnic on the floor. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
