We are moving in a week and have over £100 in credit on our prepay meter. Do you think there will be any problem getting it back from EDF when we close out our account?

As far as I am concerned it is money paid for energy we haven't used yet, and so should be returned to us.

Just wanted to know what you all think before I prepare to have to argue it in some way.

Cheers.

Provide a read and they will final bill you, if a credit nothing to argue
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Will it automatically disappear from the meter then, or will the next tenants have it to use?

I'm not sure who the provider is at the new property, but if it is EDF, then I guess they could transfer the credit to the new account.

Sent our information off to EDF last night, including photos of final reads and the £123 credit (they asked us to do this so they could write the cheque). The bloke has replied this morning psaying his manager told him they won't refund the credit and we should ask our old landlord for the sum of the credit.

This sounds like total bs! Should I threaten them for a formal complaint?

I believe this is our money, and they owe us it back!

And the point of your comment is what, that it is fine for energy companies to take our money and refuse to give it back?

Maybe £100 is trivial for you, but we live on a small budget, and we cannot afford to lose sums of money like that.

Well after battling it out with EDF and them telling us they could only refund if they had access to reset the meter, I gave them a number for the previous letting agent and told them to arrange a visit. Got an email today informing us that we would be getting a full refund sent to our new address. It said it could take 14days, but the cheque was on the floor when I got home.

Good result I think, and shows that it is worth pushing for refunds.

Best part is that credit will last about 6 months in our new house. :D
